There are seven new senators (two Democrats, five Republicans) and 74 new representatives (34 Democrats, 40 Republicans), at the start of its first session. Also, one senator (a Republican) and one representative (a Democrat) have taken office in order to fill vacancies during the 118th Congress.

Incumbents are rarely defeated. Swing districts maybe. But anyone in a solid red or blue district is basically protected until they can be used for sacrifice SEE: Al Franken.

Case in point Ted Kennedy ran a woman off a funding pier and let her drown. Rumors persist she was pregnant.

He didn't leave the Senate. He was still useful and he was part of the Democrats royal family.
